The Maidu Summit Consortium hosted the first Big Time Logging Jamboree in June 2022 to raise money to purchase seedlings for the reforestation of their land that had been destroyed by the Dixie Fire. The Almanor Foundation was asked to help coordinate. It is exactly why TAF was founded — collaborate with other organizations for the betterment of Plumas County

In working with the Maidu, TAF wanted to create something that they could do to continue funding the reforestation project. At the 2023 event, guests could donate $20.00 to purchase a tree seedling in their name or in memorandum of a loved one.  Donors received a certificate for the donation as a thank you and as a keepsake. “Though this may seem to be a small gesture, the results are far greater than just the donation,” says Misty Salem, grant manager for the consortium. “The Maidus are steeped in the area’s history and remain an integral part of what happens today and in the future of Plumas County as stewards of the land,” she adds.  The Jamboree allowed the community to partake and enjoy a wonderful event, support the reforestation effort and learn more about the Maidu culture, which continues to impact the county.
