Chilly Chili Cook-Off Gathers Over 400 Guests

With the weather a balmy 47 degrees, over 400 chili tasters came to sample chili prepared by 12 chefs and raise money for the cost of the Chester Ice Skating rink. “An event in the winter is always a risk but we couldn’t have been happier with the turnout,” says Tom Greely, chair and TAF board member. “This community always ‘shows-up’ … and by supporting the event it gives them an opportunity to own the rink by supporting the fundraiser,” he adds.

Almanor Wakeboard Shops Tiki Bar Booth won the Showmanship AwardJoining the event was award-winning ice carver Tim Carman from Carson City who began his 1,000 lbs carving with a chain saw, then fine tuned it with hand chisels and a delicate touch. The cook-off heralded the sounds of TAF director and singing dentist, Jeff Benedictson, who kept the place rocking with a great selection of tunes.

“The Almanor Foundation in partnership with the Lake Almanor Area Chamber has been so pleased with how much enjoyment the community has gotten from the ice-skating rink. It was in the works for two years as part of the plan for a Town Plaza at Chester Park. Seeing this makes all the work, time and effort worth it,” says Susan Bryner. “With the success of this event for the rink, we are one step closer to community ownership of the activities and programming for the park.”

Party With Us September 23!

Take the “A-Plane” as you stroll down memory lane at The Big Band Boogie on September 23rd at Roger’s Field in Chester.  The event is a benefit for the foundation. It will be a gala affair reminiscent of the 1940s and include a martini bar, dining to “A Taste of Almanor,” a silent and live auction and dancing to the sounds of a big band reminiscent of when “swing was king.”  We are even working to have a few WWII era planes on display as well.  More information to come but ‘til then . . .  mark your calendar and get “In the Mood” for a chicka-chicka-boom-boom good time! https://almanorfoundation.org/events/

Big Time Logging Jamboree Returns on June 3rd

There will be 10 events from ax throwing to Jack ‘n Jill sawing competition. The event will open with a Maidu prayer and a traditional ceremonial dance. Funds from the event go toward the Consortium’s mission to preserve, protect, and promote the Mountain Maidu Homeland.
