By: Susan Bryner, The Almanor Foundation

Thank you to the many people responsible for creating the Long-Term Recovery Plan for Plumas County. I attended the first workshop in Chester on February 21st, representing The Almanor Foundation’s Wild Fire Funding team.  There we were introduced to over 50 potential projects for recovery, asked to rate our top 12, and give feedback.  It was a lot to take in all at once but served as a great introduction to the hard work of those championing some worthwhile projects.

The workshop, led by Tracy Ferguson, Plumas County Planning director introduced our community’s opportunity to take place in the planning process. If you were unable to attend, it is not too late. Input on the process will be open through June 2023.

The goal is to look at the big picture, establish vision and values for recovery, tying together fire impacts and recovery needs. Community input is needed in order to identify and prioritize the recovery projects which will go a long way in securing funding sources.

Projects were broken out into categories: Housing & Commercial Buildings, Infrastructure, Economic, Health and Social Services, and Natural & Cultural Resources.

According to Clint Koble, Sierra Small Business Development Center, our own Town Plaza project in Chester, listed within Economic development, is a perfect example of a cost-effective project integrating economic development, placemaking, and community development. He would like to see similar projects across the county.

PLEASE, PLEASE take the time to get involved.
