What is a Community Foundation?

There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.
– Margaret Wheatley

A community foundation is a philanthropic organization that serves as a catalyst for charitable giving and community improvement. It pools donations from individuals, families, and businesses to support local nonprofits, projects, and initiatives. By addressing a wide range of community needs—from education and health to arts and environmental conservation—community foundations play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents. They also work to engage and connect donors with causes they are passionate about, ensuring that their contributions make a meaningful impact. Through strategic grantmaking, community foundations foster collaboration among local stakeholders, helping to build a stronger, more resilient community for all.
