Our Purpose
The Almanor Foundation (TAF) exists to strengthen the long term resilience and vitality of Plumas County. We serve as the region’s neutral convener, trusted steward, and catalytic backbone organization, aligning partners and resources to address the systems that matter most.
We believe rural communities thrive when the structures that support them are strong.
The Challenge
Plumas County faces complex, interconnected challenges:
- Housing shortages that prevent families, workers, and essential professionals from living here
- Workforce gaps that limit business growth and community services
- Wildfire recovery and resilience needs that require long‑term planning
- Economic fragility in a region dependent on seasonal and limited industries
- Fragmented systems that make it difficult for local organizations to coordinate solutions
These challenges cannot be solved by any single agency, nonprofit, or business. They require collaboration, leadership, and sustained investment.

If you’re 70½ or older with a traditional IRA, you can donate directly to TAF tax-free. This counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without increasing your taxable income.
