2025 was a year of transition, collaboration, and powerful impact across Plumas County. As The Almanor Foundation reflects on these past months, one theme stands out: when our community acts with purpose, remarkable things happen.
Leadership and Renewal
The Foundation welcomed new leadership in 2025. We began with the arrival of Dr. Lisa Kelly, whose expertise in education and workforce development is already shaping our next chapter. We also celebrated Melissa Lopez for her years of dedicated service, which built the strong foundation we stand on today.
Our Board of Directors also made several key appointments:
Susan Bryner as President & CEO
Josh Huddleston as Board Chair
Their combined vision and deep community roots are steering the Foundation toward long-term growth.
Our Mission in Action
We exist to strengthen Plumas County by supporting local nonprofits, enhancing economic opportunities, and fostering connection. We envision a county where every resident—from youth to elders—can truly flourish.
2025 Highlights and Impact
Plumas Housing Council: A Milestone Year
The Plumas Housing Council celebrated its first anniversary with a major achievement: the ribbon cutting for the first Welcome Home Greenville house. This home represents more than just shelter; it offers renewal and hope to a Dixie Fire survivor. This effort even earned recognition from Senator Dahle’s Office.
Advancing Workforce Housing
We also partnered with local organizations to develop a strategic plan for high-quality, attainable housing. A major step forward occurred when the Attainable Workforce Housing Project transitioned to Plumas Rural Services (PRS). Together, we successfully secured CDBG R funds for a new 38-unit rental development.
Wildfire Relief & Recovery
Through our Wildfire Relief and Recovery Fund, we granted $184,157 to vital organizations, including:
Plumas Animal Welfare Society and Friends of Plumas Animals
Indian Valley Thrift Store
The Plumas Housing Council
Growth in Charitable Funds
In 2025, we added five new Charitable Impact Funds to our portfolio. These funds support everything from youth conservation and arts education to “Music Under the Stars.” This growth shows the increasing trust our neighbors place in the Foundation.
Stories of Resilience
A Homecoming in Greenville: The completion of the first Welcome Home Greenville house brought tears and renewed hope to a rebuilding community.
Indian Valley Thrift Store: After losing their building to fire, volunteers reopened in a converted storage unit. A Foundation grant provided essential heating and air conditioning.
Plumas Animal Welfare: Our grants continue to support a feral cat management program, protecting both animals and public health.
Looking Ahead to 2026
The year ahead promises even more momentum. Our key initiatives include:
-
Launching the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Initiative.
-
Expanding support and capacity-building for local nonprofits.
-
Advancing attainable workforce housing.
-
Hosting the 2026 Chilly Chili Cook-Off on February 14th!
With Gratitude To our donors, partners, and volunteers: thank you. Your trust makes this work possible. Together, we are building a more resilient Plumas County.
