A Look at The Almanor Foundation
A community foundation has often been described as the wings beneath our feet—a quiet force working behind the scenes to lift others up. In Plumas County, The Almanor Foundation (TAF) is precisely that force: a nonprofit bridge connecting generous donors with the local organizations that serve our region’s most pressing needs.
A Vision for Plumas County
At the heart of our work lies a bold and inspiring vision. We imagine flourishing communities across Plumas County—places where businesses thrive, tourists explore, families grow, and individuals feel deeply connected. This vision guides every initiative we support and every partnership we nurture.
The Foundation as a Matchmaker
To bring this vision to life, TAF acts as a matchmaker—linking donors with causes that matter. Through agency stewardship, endowment funds, and fiscal sponsorships, we make giving easy, transparent, and impactful. We’re proud to serve as the organizational home for partnerships that drive real change.
The Power of Collaboration
Of course, no single organization can tackle community challenges alone. That’s why TAF fosters collaboration—bringing together nonprofits, government agencies, businesses, and donors to align efforts and amplify impact. This spirit of unity was especially evident during wildfire recovery, when 12 organizations joined forces to distribute over $2.5 million in relief funding.
How the Foundation Operates
While we don’t directly rescue animals, feed seniors, or mentor youth, we make those efforts possible. Communities and nonprofits often have big dreams but limited bandwidth. That’s where TAF steps in—with infrastructure and support. We shoulder the logistical load—handling administration, accounting, and compliance—so others can stay focused on their mission.
Who We Work With
TAF supports a wide range of initiatives, including:
- Arts education in local schools and environmental programming
- Scholarships for youth and career and technical education
- Attainable workforce housing development
- Community development and revitalization grants
- Disaster recovery and rebuilding efforts
What We’ve Accomplished
When the Dixie Fire devastated our county, TAF was still in its infancy. Yet the urgency of the moment quickly defined our purpose. Since then, we’ve helped orchestrate meaningful progress across multiple fronts:
- Relief & Recovery: $1.2 million in grants distributed to support fire-affected communities
- Leadership & Learning: Scholarships, youth development, and grant support for educational projects
- Endowment Opportunities: Family and corporate giving programs that pool investments for greater returns
- Housing Solutions: Innovative workforce housing options, especially in burn scar areas
- Funds & Fiscal Sponsorships: Over $1.4 million raised for community causes since 2021
Why the Almanor Foundation Matters
TAF is more than a nonprofit—it’s a catalyst. We are the heartbeat of a community that believes in rising together. Whether you’re a donor, a nonprofit leader, or a neighbor with a vision, The Almanor Foundation offers a platform to turn hope into action—and action into lasting results.
