Town Hall Speaks to Dixie Fire Needs

Shawn MacKenzie, CEO of Seneca Hospital, Susan Bryner, Volunteer Executive Director at The Almanor Foundation (AF), and Clint Koble, Interim Director of Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) for Dixie Fire relief efforts spoke to over 100 people at this past Monday’s Town Hall at the Mt. Lassen Theatre, via Zoom and Facebook Live

Shawn MacKenzie spoke about the Seneca Hospital Build. As Northwestern Plumas County’s ONLY healthcare facility it MUST be rebuilt to comply with SB 1953 Seismic Requirements. There is no retrofit option. If the rebuild does not happen, the facility will be shuttered in 2030. The good news is the District has the land, the zoning and the plans. Work now is to build the funds to execute.

Susan Bryner spoke next by highlighting the important needs of our communities after the Dixie Fire and how The Almanor Foundation is helping to meet the need for funds. She showcased stories of locals who are supporting their community members while combating their own losses due to the Dixie Fire. With people still living in trailers, cars, and tents, the Almanor Foundation is striving to grant funds to support for these families immediate needs along with the intermediate and long term needs for recovery.

The AF is looking for volunteers to assist.

Volunteers can sign up for the Mountain Volunteer Project (MVP) through www.lakealmanorarea.com/mtvp. If you would like to learn more or DONATE go to the Almanor Foundation Wildfire Relief Fund

Lastly, Clint Koble explained the role of the Dixie Fire Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) that is now forming. The goal of the Dixie Fire LTRG is to serve those ‘unmet needs’ of disaster survivors through collaboration and communication, to open lines of support and bring in resources, while avoiding duplication. If you are interested in taking part in the efforts of the group reach out to Clint personally at clint.koble@gmail.com or sign up as an MVP.
